On this day, Eindhoven's Cultural institutions will open their doors to the public for free and there will be special activities to enjoy for free. Travel for free on buses around Eindhoven to the participating institutions, and go in and out whenever and wherever you want. Information booklets will be available at each institutions.

Participating institutions include: Library Eindhoven, BROET, CKE, Designhuis, Effenaar, Het Brabants Orkest, Historical OpenluchtMuseum Eindhoven, Insight Museum, CBKV the Krabbedans, MU, Museum Kempenland, Museum Artificial Light in Art, Music in the Cathrien, Music Building Frits Philips, Park Theatre Eindhoven, Temporary Art Centre, Van Abbe Museum and Tourist Information Eindhoven.

Heritage Days

Open Monumentendag (Heritage Days) was started in 1987 and is one of the premier cultural events in the Netherlands. It was created with the purpose of bringing people into contact with the historic environment, and has helped significantly in rallying support for the preservation of historical monuments in the Netherlands. During the event approximately 4,000 historical buildings and sites are open to the public free of charge. (About 80-85% of Dutch municipalities participate in the Open Monumentendag.) Many locations also organize on-site activities like exhibitions, music and guided tours.

Noche de Tuna

Veldhoven Culinair

For one weekend, Veldhoven will stage a 3-day culinary event where local leading hospitality entrepreneurs will present themselves through culinary delights. Culinary Veldhoven also includes various performances, live music and entertainment. Everyday, several activities will take place for a wide audience of all ages. The event will take place at Dorpsplein De Plaatse, across from the church.

Free Tour of Eindhoven City Hall

Together with VVV Eindhoven, the government is organizing a free 1-hour tour of the Stadhuis, city hall. Those interested can sign up and recieve tickets at the VVV-store's cashier at Stationsplein (right by the train station in Eindhoven). Registration is available until 15:30 on the day of the tour. There are a maximum of 100 tickets available.

The tour begins at 16:45 with coffee and tea.

Nederlands Nationaal Circus Herman Renz (The Dutch National Circus Herman Renz) presents Jungle Fantasy. This season, more than 40 animals will be traveling with the Dutch circus where international top acts will perform together. The circus show is filled with beautiful costumes, spectacular lighting, and a live orchestra.

Runners Fair 2010

If you like to run, then you'll want to stop by this year's Runnersbeurs, Runner's Fair, where you'll find anything and everything about running. There will be exhibitors from sports businesses, sports accessories, fitness equipment, sports nutrition, sport/medical equipment, sports massage, and more.

Dutch Design Week

In the 9th edition of the largest design event in the Netherlands, around 1500 designers from the Netherlands and abroad will show their work all over the city of Eindhoven from design disciplines, such as industrial design, concept design, graphic design, textile & fashion, spatial design, food design and design management & trends. During the 9-day event, you can particpate in lectures, workshops, fashion shows, seminars, and exhibitions including Graduation Galleries of Design Academy Eindhoven, and the award ceremony of the Dutch Design Awards. Registration is required for most events.

There are nearly 60 different locations housing one or more events. There are dozens of locations in the city centre, such as de Witte Dame, TU/e, Stadhuisplein, Designhuis and Kanaalstraat. There are also projects outside the centre of Eindhoven.

Unless stated otherwise, admission to the exhibitions is free of charge.

Lichtjesroute 2010

Since 1984, Eindhoven has commemorated its liberation with a lichtjesroute (light route). Each year, volunteers help create the 22km lighted route that makes it ways throughout the city. Hundreds of thousands of light bulbs, LED's and gas-discharge lamps to create light deisplays that are enjoyed by 200,000 people each year who drive, walk or bicycle the route.

The Van Abbemuseum began its large-scale, 3-year Lissitzky+ project in September 2009 in hopes of casting new light on its renowned Lissitzky collection. A triptych of exhibitions will each explore a particular theme, and will continue through 2012. "Victory over the Sun," is the first part of the project and an entire floor of the Van Abbemuseum's new building has been specially rearranged. The museum holds one of the largest and most important Lissitzky collection outside Russia.
