This is a not very well-known sport in the Netherlands, although quite a lot of people play it. There are badminton communities but they are hard to find. Check your community guide for sports halls where they have badminton facilities.

Basketball
In the Netherlands, people love to play basketball although it is not as popular as it is in the United States. We do have a national league, but it does not comprise many teams. Nevertheless, every city has its own basketball community. If you want to find one nearby your house, search your local community guide under ‘basketbal’.

Fitness/gymnastics
Fitness is a very popular sport in the Netherlands. You will find gyms everywhere, sometimes even in your office building. Larger companies often have sports facilities for their employees, so ask around at work. If they do not have anything for their employees, check your community guide for addresses.
Healthcity is an organisation with gyms in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. Apart from basic fitness without trainer, which is very cheap, the chain also has very large gyms with all kinds of trainers, swimming pools, and saunas. 0900- 0603 (10 ct/minute)

Football (soccer)
In the Netherlands, you can play football indoors and outdoors. The indoor variant is played on a smaller field with slightly different rules, but ideal to play in winter!

Ice-skating
It does not have to be freezing outside to go ice-skating. There are many indoor ice-skating rinks in the Netherlands. Indoor ice-skating in Eindhoven is possible between October and March.

A big idoor figure skating square, also suitable for children. Outside a big 400 m court where you can practice. There is also a training field for ice hockey outside.

In the city of Geleen, close to Maastricht, you will find an ice-skating centre with a 400m track, an indoor fun court, and a training field.
Swimming (Professional)

This swimming centre has a 25-meter bath, a professional diving board, many water glides, and an area for recreational swimming. In summer, there is also an outdoor swimming area with professional and recreational pools. For swimming lessons, check your community guide or the telephone directory under zwemschool.

Tennis
There are many indoor tennis halls in the Brainport area for people who do not want to join a tennis association. In most of these halls, you can rent a court for one or more hours, and borrow or rent rackets and balls. However, ask about this when you call them to make a reservation. For outdoor tennis, you usually have to be a member of a tennis club.
