History of the lichtjeroute
It began in 1945 when citizens of Eindhoven placed candles and light bulbs to commemorate their liberation after World War II. But it was not until 1984 that the current lichtjesroute became an annual event. Since then, volunteers spend countless hours setting up the light displays each year and it is estimated that 200,000 people tour the route each year.
